February reading is tonight!

Join us at Space on White, 81 White Street, south of Canal and just east of Broadway, as 2 groups of talented performers read 2 new plays!

Each reading will be followed by a brief talkback session, giving the writers open and honest feedback as they work their new pieces of theatre through to completion.

We're bringing some new artists into the Truant family and reuniting others who have already worked with us and each other. Join the party; it will be free and it will be fun! As always at a Truant Arts event, there will be a bar. We hope to see you there.

(If you arrive before 7:30, please wait patiently in the lobby. Once the reading has started, there will be no entrances allowed until after the first play is complete.)

"Blues Man" by Joshua Cox
directed by Jasmine Pierce
featuring Heather Boddy, Grace Czerniawski, John Knapp, Stephanie Schwartz, Ja'ron Young

"The Reason For Play" by Lavinia Roberts
directed by Julia Goldstein
featuring Arlene McGruder, Mara Measor, Zoey Rutherford

Actors who produce are heroes

Had the chance to catch a small show by a couple of writer/actors who have decided to take control of their own futures by devising their own work and seeing that it gets on stage.

Theirs is a tough road that we all should consider walking down. But, if you aren't ready for all that, consider supporting.

Here are the details.

New project by friends of Truant looking for talent

Our friends at ArtEffects are launching a new film project and have put a call out for actors and writers to get involved.

The project sounds like good fun and hard work so if you are interested in more info, check it out here.

As always, we hope the truant in you makes work and lives the life you want to live.

Here's a tip (given to actors with love)

Dear, sweet favorite actor friends (and those who want to be our actor friends), I was doing some electronic housekeeping and want to share a tip with you.

When you name your headshot and resume files, use your name.

Examples:
bobteagueheadshot.jpg
and
bobteagueresume.pdf

As much as we love you and want to work with you, files called "largeheadshot.jpg" and "actingresume.pdf"-- while they no doubt make your life easier in the short term -- don't help you long term because they join the hundreds of other "largeheadshot.jpg" and "actingresume.pdf" files in our records.

Help us cast you. Stand out electronically. Be pals.

Use your name.

BONUS TIP: When we ask for headshots and resumes as jpg and pdf files, we have a reason and really want jpg and pdf files. Really. They make our lives easier and we look favorably on people who help us do that.

It may sound petty, but there you have it. When processing 300-plus headshots and resumes, little things like a .doc file instead of a .pdf file suddenly aren't petty things anymore.

ONE LAST THING (BECAUSE WE DO LOVE YOU)

If you've made it this far, there's one last thing. We are gathering headshots and resumes for our files. Please email yours to us -- as a .jpg and .pdf -- at truantarts@gmail.com.

You can stay in touch by joining our email list.
